Education at Angelsmith is a top priority for the agency. We read, review, research, attend educational conferences and webinars all so that we can stay on top of the ever changing digital marketing landscape for small business.
Our belief is that the more educated our clients are about email marketing, web development, blogger engagement, ecommerce best practices, social media and emerging mobile marketing trends, the easier our jobs will be!
With that in mind, we are going to share our resources on this Marketing Education Library page. We will continue to update this list, with the most recent education tools at the top. Some of the books we will give away on our Facebook page, so check there if you are interested in getting the book for free. Whenever possible, we will include links for more information.

MARKETING EDUCATION RESOURCES FOR SMALL BUSINESS
Book:
The Anatomy of Buzz Revisited: Real-life lessons in Word-of-Mouth Marketing
Why We Have This Book:
When I attended the Word of Mouth Marketing Summit for the first time many years ago, the book’s author Emanuel Rosen was speaking. I was mesmerized. He’s genius marketer and a fantastic storyteller. I’ve read this book from cover to cover on a couple of times. He discusses the elements needed to achieve great word of mouth marketing. But there are no magic bullets, he explains the need for a great product, amazing customer service and lots of planning.
Assessment:
A great book if you really want to understand word of mouth marketing. There are some interesting case studies and he provides the psychology behind why people talk about products and services. I give this book to many clients and other marketing pros. We will give this away on Facebook in one of our flash giveaways on our page.
Event:
Social Media Marketing World 2015
March 25 – 27, 2015
San Diego, CA.
I will be attending this event this year for the first time. If you are looking for an opportunity to improve your understanding of social media, this conference presented by Social Media Examiner, is the place to be. Some of the foremost social media experts in the world are heading up sessions along with an estimated 2500 attendees. Network, jump in the glorious Pacific Ocean, meet me for a drink(!) and get inspired. And if you’re from anywhere other than Southern California, it’s a good excuse to get out of the cold for a couple of days.
Event:
March 3 – 5, 2015
San Jose, California
Conferences always tend to get me super geeked on topics, however, when I initially attended several years ago, I wasn’t really looking forward to it. I couldn’t get any of my marketing pals to go with me and I couldn’t pawn it off on another Angelsmith team member. And I have to say what I was so excited after I attended that we’ve now made SEO & SEM a core service. This event is great for beginners as well as advanced search marketing pros and I highly recommend it. The only thing that could make it better would maybe attend the event in Las Vegas.
Presentation Zen: Simple Ideas on Presentation Design and Delivery (2nd Edition) (Voices That Matter)
Why We Have This Book:
The ability to visually illustrate complex concepts can help to make a presentation memorable. The book covers why simplicity in presentations is critical; presentation design; crafting the story and much more. It is one of those books that you read and say to yourself, “Duh! Of course, I should have thought of that.” I bought this book years ago and have used it for our agency presentations as well as for clients.
Assessment:
I love, love, love this book. It is within reach of where I sit and I refer to it often, I quote it and have recommended it to dozens of people. Even the foreword by Guy Kawasaki inspires me. Simple, easy to implement immediately. I think it has dramatically improved our presentation style.
This is one book I won’t be giving away for free on Facebook, I couldn’t stand to part with it!
Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard. Authors, Chip Heath & Dan Heath
Why We Have This Book:
We recently merged two agencies, Ink Foundry and Angelsmith, into one and were taking the company in a new direction. Eric and I had both run our own firms, our own way for more than 10 years and needed to find fluid solutions for two companies, and two teams that worked in totally different ways.
Assessment:
I would recommend this book. I think this is a very valuable book that did help us move past some entrenched behaviors to move Angelsmith forward. The case studies are fascinating, the writing is clear and concise and it’s filled with interesting concepts that help explain roadblocks.
Get it For Free:
We will give this book away on our Facebook Page. This will only last for a very limited time. Or you can click here: Switch: How to Change Things When Change Is Hard to learn more about it or buy your own shiny new copy.
